This was the showcase for the "Hard Times" group challenge pieces begun in January, 2009. To acknowledge hard economic times, artists were encouraged to use only items and materials currently in their stash.
This was an open show - neither juried nor judged and open to all current USDG members.
The USDG collaborated with Clay Arts, Utah for this judged exhibit. Fiber art was judged by representatives of the national organization, the Surface Design Association.
An exhibit by members of the Utah Surface Design Group of natural fibers formed, textured, pieced, dyed. printed, stitched and embellished into unique objects of art.

 

Utah Surface Design Group Exhibits


The USDG's first group show was in 2003, at the Rio Gallery, Salt Lake City, sponsored, in-part, by the Utah Arts Council. At the time, there were only about 22 official members in the group. Throughout the years, USDG shows and exhibits have often been open to all local fiber artists.
